Enjoy the spectacular New River Gorge National Park & Preserve Grandview & Canyon Rim Excursion, on a comfortable day trip. Your tour will depart in the morning, and you will travel to some of the most dramatic overlooks in the park. Grandview your first stop, is a peaceful place to relax and unwind while enjoying outstanding views of the New River. From 1400 feet above the river at Main Overlook, visitors are rewarded with one of the most outstanding views in the park. On a clear day you can see directly into the heart of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.

From Grandview the tour continues to Canyon Rim Visitor Center, where the most easily recognized attractions of the site are the views of the gorge and bridge. The back deck of the center offers a two-mile view southward into the park. Visitors discover the striking size of the gorge with one of the world’s oldest rivers at the bottom. A short boardwalk descends into the gorge to two observation decks which offer unobstructed views of the longest steel arch span in the western hemisphere and the mile wide gorge it spans.

Sample Excursion Itinerary

1. 11:00 AM Depart from Glade Springs Resort, traveling to Grandview arriving at approximately 11:30 PM.

2. Enjoying approximately 1.5 hours at Grandview to eat lunch, hike to Main Overlook, and take pictures. (11:30 AM – 12:45 PM)

3. After departing Grandview arrive at Canyon Rim Visitors Center at approximately 1:45 PM.

4. Experience the various areas of Canyon Rim and experience views of the New River Gorge, the bridge, and visitors center. The center features a room filled with photographs and exhibits on the people, towns, and industry of the gorge. Other displays focus on the recreation and natural history of the area. Approximately 1 hour.

5. Depart Canyon Rim at approximately 2:45 PM with a stop at Swiftwater Country Store then brief trip down under to Fayette Station, for another dramatic view of the bridge then traveling to a local brewery, Bridge Brew to relax and enjoy a beverage of your choice (included in the package price). Departing Bridge Brew approximately 4:45 PM.

6. Hop on the shuttle one last time for your return to Glade Springs, approximate arrival time 5:45 PM

Exclusions: Any personal expenses and gratuities. Shopping opportunities will be available at most of the stops.

FAQ

1. What happens if it rains?
The excursion is non-refundable, once inside the 72 hour booking window.

2. What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing and footwear. A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.

3. What should I bring with me on the excursion?
You may bring a small bag such as a backpack, purse, or crossbody. Other suggestions would be a refillable water bottle, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, and/or bug spray.

4. What time does the shuttle leave?
Shuttle will leave promptly at 11:00 AM from the Main Hotel Lobby.

5. How long is the outing?
The excursion is approximately 7 hours, with an estimated return time between 5:30 PM -6:30 PM.

6. How much walking will I be doing?
There is at least 1-3 hours of walking in total to view the scenic areas.

7. What kind of terrain will I be walking on?
Mostly flat terrain, including paved trails, boardwalk, and dirt paths, with some hills.

8. Do I have to be in good shape?
You should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance.

9. Will I be able to get my National Park Passport Stamped?
Yes. This excursion includes stops at 2 of the 4 visitor centers.

10. Come Prepared.
Remember to check the weather forecast before your excursion and adjust your clothing accordingly. Dressing in layers allows you to adapt to changing conditions throughout the day. It is a good idea to carry a small backpack for any essentials you may need during your outing.
